Abstract
This study explored the level of knowledge and educational preparation regarding substance abuse among Master’s of Social Work students. An exploratory survey research design was used to gather information from Social Work student’s knowledge level and educational preparation. Findings show that students have poor level of knowledge regarding the area of substance abuse and educational preparation is minimal. Students with previous substance abuse work experience were more likely to have knowledge regarding the criteria of substances. Future research is important to understand the relevance of social workers need to be knowledgeable in the area of substance abuse to provide effective and efficient services to this population. Implications for social work practice are discussed.
