Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the themes that emerge for skilled nursing facility patients participating in a narrative-focused life review. A convenience sample of 16 residents was recruited from Eskaton Care Centers Manzanita and Fair Oaks to participate in semi-structured life review interviews. Five themes emerged from the interviews: (1) linking the present to the past, (2) the importance of relationships, (3) a focus on strengths and accomplishments, (4) faith and spirituality, and (5) meaning-making for identity, growth, and acceptance. Future social work research may provide evidence of the benefits of narrative-focused life review, supporting narrative approaches for the aging population.
