Abstract
Many movements have arisen since the early part of the Nineteenth Century to cause recreational demands on society. Man's decreasing hours of work and increased efficiency due to technocracy have resulted in a greater amount of leisure time. The increasing number of these leisure hours has had great implications for individuals interested in recreation. Society is recognizing recreation as an essential force in daily living. Properly administered and supervised, leisure-time recreational activities can contribute a great deal to the building of character, improvement of physical and mental health, and to the promotion of good citizenship.
