Abstract
Statement of the Problem
Young women are lacking leadership skills making it harder to get a leadership position. Researchers have examined girls exceeding in their education but failing when it comes to leadership, causing a leaky pipeline from education to leadership (Shapiro et al., 2015). Women are at a disadvantage when striving for leadership due to invisible work inside the home, low self-confidence, and internalized bias (Loumpourdi, 2023). Through early intervention of leadership for young women they can build the leadership skills necessary to help them excel in their future endeavors.
Purpose of the Project
The purpose of this project is to provide leadership training and resources for young women ages sixteen to twenty to better prepare them for future leadership roles.
Project Description
This project provides young women with resources and interactive activities to help them grow their leadership skills in a group setting among peers. The evaluators provided positive feedback on the importance of this information and the inclusivity of the activities and information provided in the project. All of the evaluators agreed upon the importance of this project and the need for young women to have additional leadership training to better prepare them for leadership roles. This project will solve the need for young women in this age range to gain leadership experience while working among their peers and be more comfortable growing confidence, problem-solving, and communication skills. Young women can leave this training feeling more prepared for a leadership role whether it be for academics, career wise, or extra-curricular.
