Abstract
The purpose of this research is to have a better understanding of the barriers that Latino women face when reporting domestic violence. Several variables were considered including religion, machismo, marianismo, fear, language and culture. The literature review utilized peer reviewed journal articles that examined these factors as they relate to domestic violence. The research study examined the beliefs of 50 Latino women in Sacramento County. Findings indicated that the primary barriers to reporting domestic violence were fear of retaliation lack of knowledge about available resources, cultural norms and language.
