Abstract
This study seeks to understand how Chicanx parents racially socialize their children to interact with Police Officers. Findings for this study come from semi-structured interviews with Chicanx Parents focusing on (a) What kind of experiences/relationships have they had with the Police Department; (b) how these experiences with the Santa Paula Police Department affect them; (c) how they convey their experiences and ideas of policing to their children, and (d) how do personal experiences with policing and the local Police Department shape their opinion of how Black people are treated by Police in America. Interview themes illuminate a representative understanding of the racial socialization strategies in the Chicanx population of Santa Paula. By using sociological Critical Theories such as Intersectionality and Critical Race Theory, we find that Police injustices continue in Santa Paula and affect parenting for the Chicanx population.
