Abstract
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, the California State Railroad Museum (CSRM) developed multiple digital resources for students and teachers that meet academic standards and curriculum. This thesis details the development of three digital museum educational resources for CSRM, including the online exhibit “How the Railroad Changed the Circus, and How the Circus Transformed American Cultural Identity” and a digital story book titled, “Come One, Come All! How the Railroad Changed the Circus,” featuring an optional built-in student activity. This thesis not only discusses the creation of the educational resources as important contributions to museums and education amid pandemic shutdowns but also details the primary source research and literature review of circus history that made the creation of these resources possible.
