Abstract
The objective of this project was to identify and recommend effective strategies for integrating cultural relevance into the General Educational Development (GED) test preparation curriculum used by the Greater Sacramento Urban League (GSUL) in order to improve the passing rate of GED test takers. The final project provides a compendium of best practices intended to empower GED instructors and facilitate collaborative relationships between participants and staff. The research for the project focused on three distinct areas: cultural relevance and multicultural education; adult learning theory and promising practices in GED test preparation programs. This material was supplemented with information provided by GSUL staff, faculty and program participants as well as input from instructors and directors of successful, culturally relevant programs.
