Abstract

Bullying and victimization Population surveillance Substance use School climate
Although many researchers have conducted studies using the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) data, there is a need for a systematic review of literature to synthesize insights in one place as it pertains to the use of the CHKS. Our systematic review of research aims to answer the following research questions: (1) What are the most significant threads of insight among research studies that utilize the CHKS dataset? (2) How does the use of the CHKS help to inform developmental psychology, public policy, and future endeavors regarding the health and well-being of school-aged youth? We employed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method to systematically review studies using the CHKS. We identified articles by searching the following databases: EBSCOhost (Academic Search Complete, APA PsychINFO, APA PsychArticles, ERIC, Education Fell Text, Social Sciences Full Text) using the search term “California Healthy Kids Survey” across all databases. Retrieval dates fell between January 2022 and March 2022. Eighty-eight studies met the inclusion criteria. Recommendations for practice and implications for future research are provided.
