Abstract
This project aims to improve the manageability and efficiency of a diverse team at PSI Services LLC by updating and standardizing processes and procedures. Following the “Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control” (DMAIC) approach within Lean Six Sigma methodology, surveys, focus groups, and interviews were used to guide us in achieving our goals. A restructure within the department aiming to streamline and manage like work occurred within the first improve phase, which removed two of the four sub-teams and decreased the team size from 14 to 6 individuals. The newly formed Statistical Reporting & Analytics (SR&A) team became the focal point of the project, and a second DMAIC cycle was initiated. Project tracking software was implemented, documentation of procedures was initiated, and members were cross-trained in order to address the narrower scope. We evaluated the project’s success through surveying the remaining SR&A team members and comparing to the pre-intervention survey. Results indicated increased team clarity of workflows (from 70% to 80%) and procedures (from 89% to 100%), and increased comfort with finding resources (from 70% to 100%). After two cycles, we created a solid foundation of team procedures and processes from which further growth of the team can easily develop.
