Abstract
In this thesis, trash talk is critically analyzed within press conferences for UFC 229. This thesis is approached as a case study to critically examine the public discourse of Conor McGregor’s trash talk during press conferences. The primary aim of critically analyzing these press conferences is to explore the discursive influence of trash talk in perpetuating whiteness ideologies. Through a Faircloughian (2001) approach to CDA and critical theory of whiteness (Owen, 2007), this thesis investigates the rhetoric of Conor McGregor as expressed through trash talk in UFC press conferences.
