Abstract
For the majority of the social events like football, music concerts and meetups, people tend to go alone. What people have failed to understand is sharing a ride provides an opportunity to reduce pollution, cuts down on gas and oil consumption, and trims down the cost of commute. The purpose of the application is to provide a platform to bring like-minded people together, promote people to take up the idea of carpooling and help them coordinate. The platform encourages carpooling, which lets 3-4 people carpool in the same vehicle, thereby taking couple of vehicles off of the road. If lots of people carpooled, it would mean less rush hour traffic, quicker commute times, cheaper commute and lots of open parking spots. The developed application provides the user a platform where they can either create an event to which they are going to attend by posting the details of the event with the number of seats available in their car, or to look at all the public events listed and if interested in any event, ask the event creator for a ride to the event. The application provides the user with Google maps allowing them to find the optimal route to the event location. Additionally, the application lets the user send a distress message to their emergency contacts with their last known location.
