Abstract
In order to generally investigate and explore qualities and characteristics of stable homosexual marriages, exploratory study was undertaken. Specific questions were formulated in collaboration with representatives of homophile organizations and the focus narrowed to ten areas of major concern. The instrument of measurement was a mailed questionnaire designed to protect the anonymity of respondents and mailed to volunteers involved in a homosexual marriage of at least two years duration. Three hundred sixty-five questionnaires were requested by individuals and organizations and mailed. Fifty were returned, not completed and one hundred thirty-four respondents (103 males, 28 females, and three who failed to indicate their sex) completed the questionnaires and returned them. Data was considered collectively and then divided into male and female groups and studied separately. Respondents were generally youthful, well-educated, stable in their marriages and occupations, employed in professional and semi-professional occupations and of the middle-class socioeconomic group.
