This thesis examines the barriers women continue to face in politics and media. The research question is: how do newspapers cover female politicians in the 113th Congress and their contributions to national issues and public policies? There were 575 news articles examined from The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. The data shows congresswomen continue to face sexism and gender stereotyping from the media, colleagues, and government members. Finally, some women in politics serve conservative values by denying the “Republican’s War on Women.” Ultimately, this thesis shows that while women continue to push boundaries, the glass ceiling is far from broken.
