Abstract
Statement of the Problem
The purpose of this project is to provide a functional example of a high school coaching manual that can provide guidance to new and experienced high school soccer coaches regarding issues specific to women's high school soccer programs in the Sacramento area, but applicable to soccer teams in general as well.
Sources of Data
The sources of material for this project include journal articles, newspaper articles, books, web sites, and interviews involving coaches who are considered to be creditable and knowledgeable in the local soccer world.
Conclusions Reached
High school women's soccer coaches face a number of issues that complicates their job. Some of these include issues involving elite players who play year round and trying to prevent overtraining, conducting practice and conditioning sessions for a wide array of fitness levels and experience levels, and conflicts between club and high school teams. Many coaches need background knowledge in the science behind many of the issues in coaching a team to help improve their coaching and training sessions.
