Abstract
Statement of Problem: Veterans who have served in the armed forces protecting the freedom and rights of all citizens of the United States are in great need for housing services. Thousands of veterans from all branches of our armed forces continue to fall on hard times upon returning from deployments throughout the world in our ongoing global war on terrorism. The September 11 terrorist attack at the World Trade Center Towers in New York City not only changed the lives of all people directly affected by the loss of life. The attack also affected our nation secured environment and the lives of thousands of people deployed to serve mainly in Afghanistan and Iraq. The purpose of this project is to assist homeless veterans by increasing the availability of suitable transitional living space. More specifically, this grant proposal was developed to assist homeless veterans and their families during their difficult reintegration to suitable employment, self-sufficiency, and improvement of their quality of life as productive members of society. Sources of Data: The research sources for this project included the literature available in peer-reviewed journals and articles, the Department of Veterans Affair’s reports, reports to Congress, the World Wide Web, previous CSUS theses, and through the interviewing of peer and leaders in the vocational rehabilitation field. Conclusions Reached: A grant proposal is developed for a homeless transitional housing assistance program and builds on available information and community support to discuss how opportunities for self-independence through regained self-worth and confidence by eradicating homelessness and fostering a safe and secure environment instilling personal growth for homeless veterans.
