Abstract
Music is art, language, and culture in motion. Second language learners can release themselves into a world of L2 learning to experience the beauty of art, language, and culture through music and its analysis. Active L2 music listeners will have exposure to the “hidden” resources that reveal grammar and thought provoking reflection/examination through L2 song activities. This workbook manual is equipped with activities intended for both the teacher and the student where Spanish is the target language in the classroom. More possibilities lie where teachers prefer to use technology such as an Internet classroom like NiceNet and have students respond via the Internet versus the traditional paper and pencil method. In addition, schools equipped with a school network system where teachers are able to post documents and students can access those electronic documents, students will be able to respond/edit and ultimately submit documents for evaluation. This method of incorporating grammar and analysis through music introduces L2 learners to Latin/Spanish music where L2 students otherwise may not have had the opportunity to hear and study this genre of music. Active listening and exposure to the music in the target language may guide L2 students to a basic foundation for an appreciation of Latin/Spanish music and its artists and may allow them to further consider listening to the L2 artists and singers on their own will. L2 teachers can use popular music in the target language as a vehicle to surpass the mundane use of grammar drills and basic comprehension questions to present students to an exposure of authentic materials that transcend the use of merely relying on one single source, the conventional textbook.
