Abstract
This study explored wage disparity between men and women in the field of social work. The purpose of this study was to find out if a wage disparity between men and women in social work exists and if it does, to explore associations between possible factors to wage disparity. The study used a secondary data set from the National Association of Social Workers Center for Workforce Study. The original respondents were 4,436 licensed social workers from forty-eight states and the District of Colombia. The study looked at possible factors associated with wage disparity such as age, education, years of practice and employment sector. The study found that in most instances gender played a greater role in determining a social workers wages than any other factor. The study found that a social worker with an MSW had a greater increase in wages as time went on in their career. This study found that a wage disparity between men and women in the field of social work does exits. This study further examines why this disparity is occurring.
