Abstract
The purpose of the project is to be able to recognize the difference between a male and a female lion using machine vision algorithms. There’s a noticeable difference between a male lion and a female lion that can easily be determined with the human eye. A male lion has an extreme amount of facial hair that sets it apart from its female counterpart. Preliminary teaching of a toddler to identify the difference can be done by showing several pictures of a lion to help them identify the difference between the two genders. The same concept will be used in this case by using supervised learning methods. Images of male and female lions with their respective similarities are stored in a database that is used to accomplish this task. The main intent of this project is to classify and identify the gender of a lion based on comparative analysis done by the program. This project can be used to monitor the wildlife population across biospheres. Another application could be to design alert systems that would protect humans from wildlife in rural areas.
