Abstract
This study explored some of the challenges that first-generation college students experienced within an academic setting at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) in Sacramento, California. Participants consisted of undergraduate and graduate first-generation students, a total of 102 students participated in the survey administered by the researcher. The findings revealed that participants report challenges in personal identity, support systems, college preparedness, and financial stability. More research will be needed on what other challenges first-generation college students experience and how to best provide support for these students.
