Abstract
Farmworkers in the United States provide the food that feeds this nation. Yet, farmworkers continue to be one of the most under-privileged individuals in the country. Even though studies have looked at various topics regarding farmworkers in the U.S., when it comes to farmworker participation in their children’s schooling, research is limited. Parental participation in children’s schools is an important factor that shapes children’s school experiences and outcomes. This study explores factors that shape farmworkers’ parental participation in their children’s schools. Using survey data collected from a vineyard management by a company located in Napa, CA, I explore individual, household, and social factors that influence farmworkers’ participation in their children’s schooling.
