Abstract

Group counseling Children and divorce Group counseling curriculum Divorce Separation Middle school Young adolescents
This project is based on a collection of literature encompassing children of divorce and separation, potential internalizing and externalizing behaviors associated with divorce, educational implications for divorce or separation, and the effectiveness of therapeutic techniques and their benefits with students in this population. This project is designed to increase awareness of children experiencing divorce or separation and the behaviors often seen in educational settings via an educational inservice for school staff. In addition, this project includes group curriculum for children, including therapeutic techniques and strategies for working with students experiencing divorce or separation. These practice methods incorporate ideas and strategies from mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and strength-based therapeutic techniques.
