Abstract
There is a need for more knowledge and information to determine the effectiveness and success of the social work program in terms of meeting student and program goals. One hundred twenty five surveys were distributed to 2007 MSW graduates by the Division of Social Work. Thirty-one (24%) surveys were returned. The surveys are a part of the program's evaluation to help it measure how well the program prepared students for advanced social work practice and their satisfaction with the program. Data showed overall satisfaction among students who have attended the MSW program. They felt that the program had prepared them more than adequately for professional practice. The quality of second year placements was valued more than the quality of the first year field placements. The top three most valuable experiences that prepared them for social work practice were field experience, interaction and support of professors and the information learned in the practice classes. Suggestions to help improve the MSW academic program included: the need for more help with theses/projects from faculty advisors and staff; hold students to higher academic standards; and professors should be more knowledgeable and supportive to provide an educational and effective learning experience for students.
