Abstract
The study assesses the problem of goal attainment through the social work education provided at California State University, Sacramento. The problem directly applies to whether or not the Division of Social Work meets its intended goals. The 2007 BASW graduates were included in the assessment process through program evaluation. The university mailed questionnaires to the alumni in an effort to assess the quality of the social work curriculum from the perspective of the 2007 BASW alumni. The program evaluation includes how well the social work program matches the goals outlined by the Division of Social Work. There were 34 questionnaires analyzed in this study. The major questions presented in this study related to demographic information, preparation for professional practice, satisfaction with the program, field work, most valuable and least worthwhile experiences, and resources used to persevere.
Cultural sensitivity was an area that the majority of BASW alumni felt prepared for in practice. Most students were well prepared for advocating for change and being culturally sensitive. The students maintained a heightened level of satisfaction with the program. Participants saw the educational experience as being adequately valuable. In addition, most students suggested that field work improved their social work development.
