Abstract

Resources for marginalized youth (LGBT)
This project focuses on the literature surrounding intersectionality and youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) Latinx with an immigrant/refugee status. In particular, we examine the adversities and barriers that they face at home, at school, and in their community. Intersectionality is a term that brings awareness to the multiple marginalized identities one may identify with, such as race, gender, and sexuality. Research indicates youth who identify as LGBT, immigrant/refugee, or Latinx are more prone to encounter difficulties academically, socially, and emotionally; however, when marginalized identities are intertwined, adversities may increase. It is important to raise awareness of intersectionalized identities and how to best support youth with intersectionalized identities. This project is intended to provide resources and tools for educators and adults working with LGBT Latinx youth with an immigrant/refugee status via a website. The website focuses on California, and its main objectives are to bring awareness, educate, and provide easily accessible resources.
