Abstract
This project served as the beginning phase of development for the Explicit Service Plan, a one-page graphic organizer designed to present critical information from an IEP. The Explicit Service Plan was developed by graduate students Jacob Solomon and Shanna Sperry with the assistance of Dr. Jemma Kwon, at California State University of Sacramento. This project was designed to develop the Explicit Service Plan, and then measure the perceived helpfulness of each of its critical elements. A presentation with survey embedded was presented to 38 participants from an elementary and middle school, all of whom had a role within an IEP team (Special Educator, General Education Teacher, Service Providers, Parents/Guardians) and were considered all to be stakeholders in the IEP process. The Explicit Service Plan lists a student’s IEP goal, the interventions or instruction methods used to meet the goal, the service times associated with the interventions and instruction, information regarding progress monitoring, and action taken by the IEP team. These vital pieces of data from the IEP can be quickly updated and interpreted as a tool to help guide discussion and decisions related to the special education services a student is receiving. The purpose of this project was to establish data to support future development of the Explicit Service Plan.
