Abstract
Current research on elder abuse focuses particularly on the risk factors, criminal justice response, definitions of elder abuse, and types of elder abuse. Few research studies focus on how race of the victim can impact the type of abuse they are likely to experience. This research study was designed to assess whether there is a prevalence of a specific type of elder abuse among different racial groups. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to compute the data obtained from Sacramento County Adult Protective Services. The chi-square test was computed to determine a general relationship between the independent variable and dependent variable. The risk analysis test was computed to determine if a specific type of abuse was more prevalent in a particular racial group. The findings of this study indicate a significant relationship between victim’s race and type of elder abuse they are likely to experience, but do not provide a clear distinction of the type of abuse most prevalent in each racial group.
