Abstract
Sutter Health Sacramento Region and Los Rios Community College District Foundation joined in 2003 in a collaborative and innovative effort to graduate more nurses to meet the nursing shortage. Staff nurses assuming the new role of faculty are required to learn new skills. A needs assessment was conducted with faculty in several nursing schools in the area. The survey revealed that evaluation in the clinical setting is one of the skills that is most difficult to accomplish by new faculty members. A peer-reviewed manual was developed to assist new faculty in learning the evaluation process of nursing students in the clinical setting.
