Abstract
Qualitative and quantitative research on Ethnic Studies content provides instrumental information that illustrates the academic growth and development of students and teachers. In California, where advocacy for Ethnic Studies curriculum has increased, prospective teachers have to obtain a social science credential to teach Ethnic Studies. Unfortunately, preparation programs are limited in how they train prospective educators because the resources are not sufficient to prepare them to teach Ethnic Studies content. Additionally, prospective educators enter the teaching workforce with narratives that highlight disparities in education. If not appropriately addressed, prospective educators would not be effectively challenged to understand how hegemonic, Eurocentric ideologies are embedded within education. This project will attempt to provide essential information that would assist newly credentialed social science educators in their preparation to effectively teach Ethnic Studies. Through analysis of an Ethnic Studies education, this project will highlight what has to be done to ensure an engaging and effective learning experience for students and teachers.
