Abstract
The bulk power system is renovated with the introduction of power electronic devices and renewable energy. Maintaining the stability of the renovated system has been a concern for many years. HVDC transmission system has the advantage of transmitting vast electric power over a long distance with less voltage drop or electric losses. With advancements in power electronics technology, HVDC transmission is becoming the primary choice in power industry when dealing with long transmission lines. An improved technology with Voltage Source Converter (VSC) in HVDC can provide a secure lossless power delivery. This project presents a power system stability analysis on a 230KV, 8-bus transmission system (modified from IEEE 9bus system) with three machines (Generators) under severe transients. The system is modeled and simulated in a visual simulation Power System CAD (PSCAD) tool.
