Abstract
Although there are laws to protect people with disabilities in the workplace, there are still a disproportionate number of people with disabilities who are unemployed. There are a great number of people with disabilities who desire to work; however, they are unable to find employment due to their disability status. The reason for the disparity can be attributed to several damaging myths shared among hiring managers that collectively prohibit those with disabilities from finding adequate employment. The sources of data for this Master's Project include: journal articles, books, online information from various websites and other relevant information pertaining to this topic. Laws that govern those with disabilities include the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act. People with Disabilities (PWD) can enjoy improved employment opportunities when employers are able to dispel their misconceptions about hiring PWD. Employers need to be informed of their biases regarding hiring those with disabilities. Hiring managers need detailed education on what to do when they have a PWD on their staff. Those with disabilities need to be knowledgeable of the basic expectations of job etiquette in order to be successful in the workplace.
