Abstract
Roadways and infrastructure play an important role in the safety and well-being of our society. Regular inspection of transportation facilities is an effective way in reducing the risk of severe collisions and identifying the needs to address any project. The primary purpose of this project is to improve a segment of a two-lane highway along State Route 1 south of community of Elk within the limits of Mendocino county in the state of California. This improvement will increase the safety of motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians by proposing several engineering designs features in lieu of the existing facility. Constraints along this project have been studied and identified as environmental disturbance and right of way acquisition. Several design strategies have been implemented to address the project challenges which will help in reducing the impacts and keep the construction within the allocated budget.
