Abstract
This qualitative study examined effective interventions while working with the transgender community in Sacramento County. This exploratory study used grounded theory and a snowball non-probability sampling design while interviewing ten professionals who worked with the transgender community. Subjects responded to interview questions regarding effective interventions and resources based on barriers within the transgender community. The study results show multiple effective interventions including case management, mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Feminist Therapy, and cultural competency skills. This thesis concludes with multicultural competency skills, including professional knowledge of intersectional identities. This study demonstrates the need for further research for effective interventions and culturally competency skills training for social work professionals.
