Abstract
Statement of the Problem
Current models of sex education (sometimes referred to as sex ed, sexuality education, or sexual education) often rely on shame and scare tactics to educate students about sexuality; sex education is also often exclusive of LGBTQ+ students’ experiences, identities, and issues. Because of this, students are misinformed about their bodies, identities, and sexuality. Students are misinformed, and as such, are unable to make healthy and safe decisions relating to their sexuality.
Purpose of the Project
This project adopts a feminist approach for sex education, removing the shame and scare tactics; instead, this project works to normalize traditionally stigmatized sexual identities, behaviors, and issues. This project works to empower students so they can make informed, consensual, healthy decisions about their own and partners’ bodies, identities, and behaviors.
