Abstract
Involving families in their children’s education fosters academic achievement, social and emotional development, and other positive school outcomes for all children. Unfortunately, school-home relationships with Latin American families often have been ignored or underdeveloped. Disconnections between home and school may be especially severe in areas where school personnel may not understand the culture of the students and families with whom they work. This project aims to bridge the gap between home and families. It emphasizes how home-school relationships can help the student have a positive outlook on education. After attending this workshop, teachers and parents will have a better understanding of the importance of collaboration between school and home. The prepared project is a 3-hour training outreach night including a presenter’s manual, handouts, slides, and presenter notes. Credentialed school psychologists can train a target audience of teachers and parents. Outreach night participants will better understand the importance of positive school and home relations.
