Abstract
The purpose of this research study was to explore the beliefs and perspectives of BSW and MSW students in the Division of Social Work at the California State University, Sacramento. A descriptive research design was utilized, and the convenience sample of available BSW and MSW students was used to conduct the study. The author dispensed, surveys in both undergraduate and graduate Human Behavior in Social Environment courses (HBSE 125 & 235), as well as in a graduate Advanced Policy course. One hundred twenty- two surveys were returned and data from the responses was coded and analyzed via Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 16.0. Upon analyzing the survey data, the author observed that the students surveyed responded affirmatively in many areas of need for stigma education. In reviewing the findings produced by the research instrument, one could argue that the BSW and MSW students surveyed have a high opinion of the efficacy of education and its impact on personal perspective and change.
