Abstract
The authors collaborated and shared equal responsibility in all aspects of the development of this project, which reviews current research on dyslexia and classroom interventions. Despite the training teachers receive in their credential programs, there remains considerable misunderstanding about dyslexia. The purpose of this project is to provide teachers with the information they will need about dyslexia: what it is, risk factors for it, prevalence, co-morbid conditions, and early identification. In addition, this project will provide information on reading instruction and home-school collaboration. It is expected that as a result of attending this workshop, teachers will gain both knowledge and skills in understanding and addressing the needs of struggling readers in their classrooms. The prepared project is a 4-hour training workshop with a presenter’s manual, handouts, slides, and presenter notes. Any credentialed school psychologist can train a target audience of teachers working in schools. Workshop participants will better understand dyslexia and effective classroom interventions.
