Abstract
The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate current clinical practices concerning self-esteem as a primary focus of clinical attention and measurement as well as to explore whether clinicians use encouragement techniques to build their clients self-esteem. Current practices of self-esteem focus, interventions, and measurements were analyzed from the responses of 11 participating therapist. The results showed that 10 out of 11 therapists believe self-esteem and encouragement to be of significant importance in their client’s mental health. Only one of 11 clinicians used a specific self-esteem intervention to evaluate their clients’ mental health.
