Abstract
Abuse amongst women with disabilities takes many of the same forms as abuse amongst able-bodied women. However, due to their disabilities the repercussions associated with abuse differ. This research study examines the current knowledge of women with disabilities in regards to how women with disabilities in general are treated by legal professionals in cases of abuse. The participants in this study discussed the differences women with disabilities face in cases of abuse. The participants admitted that they had little knowledge of the legal community and proceedings. There is a need to provide outreach and education to disabled women and the legal community in the hopes that these two populations can work more efficiently in protecting the rights of disabled women.
