Abstract
The objective of the project is to design, simulate and fabricate a broadband microstrip balun to operate at a center frequency 8GHz and wide bandwidth of4GHz. Here, we are representing two designs one with a short at the output line and one with a open at the output line. These balun designs will find various applications in the wireless industry such as pushpull configuration and mixers. The Advanced Design System (ADS) software will be used to design and simulate the model. This first design with the short at the output line is aimed to provide coupling of-15 dB at both output ports and an exact phase difference of 180 degrees between the two output ports over the specified frequency range. The second design with open stub at the output line gives low voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) while maintaining good amplitude balance. The emphasis will be to obtain a high degree of amplitude balance, phase balance and low VSWR, keeping in tune with high performance demanded by wireless systems.
