Abstract
The Vacaville Police Department’s Crime Suppression Team’s primary focus is on gang intelligence and the suppression of gang-related crime. An updated training manual for the Crime Suppression Team will allow a more effective means to suppress gang-related crime, train new detectives, and collaborate with outside agencies. Sources of Data Resources compiled for use in this project were obtained from three major sources: a comprehensive review of the existing literature, written and practical techniques utilized by outside law enforcement agencies, and an in-depth historical analysis of current legislation in the field of gang suppression. Conclusions Reached Research and a lack of uniform techniques utilized by law enforcement illustrate an ongoing need to be cognizant of the dangers criminal street gangs present to communities and the ever changing techniques that gang members employ. Law enforcement needs to recognize public expectations and understand the opportunity to enhance the quality of life in the communities they serve. Utilizing a consistent application can more effectively assist law enforcements efforts to suppress gang-related crime.
