Abstract
One of the drawbacks in the 3d scanner here in use is that it doesn't give a very good scanned image of the objects which has shiny surface. Now the femoral component is also metallic and has a shiny surface, thus it requires to be painted with some color to make its surface less shiny.
The problem with the shiny surface is that the reflection of light from the surface of the component makes it hard for the scanner to make a point cloud of the surface of the component in the scan image. Reflection of light makes it difficult for the scanner to read the surface of the component and thus the scanned image obtained is not clear.
When scanning the femoral component, the surface of the component was painted with a white paint. Also with paint on the object the scanner finds it easy to read the dotted signs on the surface of the component.
