Abstract
A growing yet frequently overlooked population within academic settings is children of incarcerated parents. Parental incarceration is associated with adverse behavioral, social-emotional, and academic outcomes. This project aims to provide school psychologists with a practical resource to communicate the unique needs of children of incarcerated parents and to equip educators with evidence-based strategies to support their academic success. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to examine the impacts of parental incarceration and identify effective supports. Findings from this review informed the development of a professional development presentation designed to increase awareness and provide actionable tools, resources, and strategies for use within school settings. These findings highlight the critical role of school psychologists in promoting awareness and fostering supportive school environments for students impacted by parental incarceration.
