Abstract
My project titled "Childhood" is a jazz orchestra composition running about 12 minutes in duration. It presents an emotional journey that entangles all kinds of feelings when one looks back retrospectively to one’s childhood (as a metaphor for past journeys), where one struggled to grow up. There are melancholy, innocent, warmth, calm, struggling, angry, both remotely and presently, weaved throughout the piece. My analysis in this paper examines the emotions that each section presents in its “sounds” and how those sounds are delivered through various compositional devices.
