Abstract
Problem Significance: Obesity, specifically childhood obesity, continues to challenge public health professionals. The recent COVID-19 pandemic made healthy eating at home even more challenging, especially for parents and caregivers in low-income communities.
Analysis and Objectives: New and innovative interventions are required to address barriers that parents and caregivers face when keeping healthy eating habits in the home. Parental self-efficacy is an important aspect of healthy eating behaviors in the household. This intervention aims to increase parental self-efficacy related to household food security management.
Intervention (Solution) Proposal: The mobile application RealMeal will increase self-efficacy in parents by providing effective meal planning, shopping, and cooking, resources in a one-stop-shop style mobile app.
Recommendations and Conclusions: Community engagement, strategic planning, and cultural competency are all critical components for the implementation of the proposed intervention. A successful intervention will promote household behaviors that will reduce childhood obesity rates in low-income communities.
