Abstract
The purpose of this study was to create a supplemental assessment index for Child Protective Services, Emergency Response when screening youth for Commercial Sexual Exploitation. The Social Worker Assessment Index (SWAI) is based on known risk factors for exploitation. The authors gathered social worker professional input regarding the importance of the risk factors in the SWAI and focus group input regarding the efficacy of the SWAI. The results showcase the importance of foremost the Parent & Care Environment and CSE Concerns domains and shows that the SWAI has high internal consistency. Following the completion of the study, the authors believe that the SWAI can consistently measure CSE risk factors. Future research could include other programs within CPS in Sacramento County such as Informal Supervision and Permanency.
