Abstract
A growth in academic objectives toward inclusion, diversity, and accessibility has driven universities toward revising approaches toward connecting with and advising students. Even before pandemic instruction required a necessary shift toward virtual instruction and advising support, literature was reviewing and assessing effective advising models of in-person, distance education, and virtual tools. A brief history of advising tools and the evolution of advising practices supports this project review of literature as the field moves forward to maintaining virtual advising systems. Universities will not likely return to any single previous advising models, but rather will likely continue to use all advising models (in person and virtual) as needed.
