Abstract
Research has shown that African American students are not doing well academically as white students. Varies studies show how African American students as well Latino/a student’s academic achievement increases when they work with literature and works involving their cultures and communities (NAEP, 2019). Ethnic Studies can help the achievement gap of African American students. There are various aspects in African American culture. One aspect in African American culture is the various art forms, such as music, dance, visual art, theatre, etc. This project will focus on the infusion of black conscious music and the musical Hamilton: An American Musical in Ethnic Studies. Through exploration of the history of Ethnic Studies, the journey of black music, and provide two example curriculums of Ethnic Studies with black conscious music and Hamilton: An American Musical.
