Abstract
This study examined the challenges and differences among recently and long-term homeless older adults in Sacramento County. The study utilized a secondary data analysis of the Sacramento County Point in Time (PIT). The original PIT count used a descriptive survey research design to pursue an exploratory quantitative analysis of mostly categorical variables. The current study completed a quantitative analysis on a subset of the original dataset. Researchers used IBM statistical package for Social Services (SPSS) software program to provide descriptive statistics, charts, and chi-square analyses about the experiences and challenges related to homelessness among the recently and long-term homeless older adults. The chi-square analyses revealed that compared to recently homeless older adults, long-term homeless older adults were significantly more likely to self-report being disabled, experiencing PTSD, using alcohol or non-medical drugs and having disability benefits.
