Abstract
Problem Identification: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) is a significant public health problem for low socioeconomic status (SES) adult smokers. This project aims to examine cigarette use and its connection to COPD among low SES adults in Sutter County, California.
Analysis: The analysis utilizes a comprehensive approach by examining factors that target various layers of the Social Ecological Model. A deep analysis of contributing factors such as limited knowledge, lack of support, and the absence of tobacco retail licensing are shown to influence smoking among the low SES population in Sutter County.
Intervention (Solution) Proposal: The COPD Connection program aims to focus on improving knowledge, support, and awareness among low SES adult smokers to help increase proper management of COPD. Health promotion strategies within the formation of the intervention include educational workshops, peer counseling sessions, and the creation of a community coalition in Sutter County.
Implementation and Evaluation: As COPD is preventable, effective measures will be taken to increase knowledge, support, and awareness in regard to cigarette use among participants. For successful implementation, qualified individuals will assist in executing the intervention. The intervention will apply both summative and formative evaluation methods to ensure efficiency.
